To some folks who have been traveling by means of the airlines for quite a few years, it is becoming evident how the courtesy factor has dropped. A few say it is due to a decline in airline service giving you smaller and closer seats, charging customers for nearly everything with a charge, and greater airport security. All these things and perhaps several additional have made airline travel taxing for the tourist, and we wish to provide several ways we as passengers could make the airline travel experience better.

Here is a consensus of what some etiquette experts articulate on likely disputed areas:

1. Who gets the armrests? Prevalent concurrence that the individual in the center seat gets both, since unlike the passengers on either side, they've nowhere to lean. Also, it is some compensation for having to sit in that center seat.

2. The window seat passenger has to visit the bathroom, and he has to get around two slumbering passengers who're strangers. Tapping the stranger on the shoulder and respectfully asking ought to do the trick, as there are evidently no other choices. Still, he must limit the disruptions to a bare minimum.

3. A passenger brings smelly food in the airplane and opens it up. Not much the offended passengers can do except turn the air outlet on full blast. But for any passenger to do that is simply not right and perhaps simply does it out of ignorance.

4. Over a long flight the nearby youngsters are disobedient. Initially, try to ignore it for as long as it is possible to, and then nicely say something to the parent if you can't take it any longer. If it nevertheless persists, turn it over to the flight attendant, who's trained to handle these matters.

5. A tall or really bulky person sitting next to you infringes in your space. This is obviously a touchy one, as seats on a few flights have gotten pretty small, and folks are getting larger in general. While you are entitled to your space from armrest to armrest of the seat you bought, everyone must be practical for passengers to make the airline travel experience better. I've found body expression can go a long way in each person positioning themselves in an agreeable position, but when things get very uncomfortable, request the flight attendant if it might be possible to relocate.

6. My personal pet gripe, those that recline their seats so far as possible. I in no way do it if the seat behind is empty, and if anyone before me does it but it infringes on my legroom, my knees are probably going to dig into the rear of their seat, and it will probably be uncomfortable. Oh, well. I am a little taller than average, and if there isn't a space to place my legs, they will push against the seat reclined into my lap.

The fact is, with all the restrictions and with aircraft getting fuller and much more cramped; we all have to adopt an approach of "let's get through this as best we can." That means for a short time frame for passengers to make the airline travel experience better, all of us have got to cope in conditions that are not the most comfortable. But when we all act collectively observing everyday etiquette practices, the encounter can be made more pleasurable.
